These days men are just as conscious about their hair as women are, and as such there are plenty of stylish mens hair styles that are meant to work with their facial features and personal style preferences.A few decades ago not much thought was given to the hair styles that men wore, but today there is a large amount of thought put into it. This is a short style with the hair swept up in a variety of directions and held up with gel, styling mousse, or wax. This is a very modern look and is very popular with younger men. A popular addition to this look is having the tips highlighted to give the hair an even more youthful look.Very short mens hair styles are popular as well. While not quite as short as a bowl cut, these types of hairstyles have a little hair left over in order to brush to the front or to the back. Depending on the amount of hair that is left, it can either look shaggy or extremely clean cut. This is a more conservative look than those that are swept up, and provide a great alternative to the above.

Wood Ducks in Florida!

We have wood ducks in upper Michigan, but they are very hard to photograph because they are in the wild

and are very skiddish and fly when they see humans.

So, when we went to Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Florida in February

I was thrilled to see they had some that weren't as shy that I could photograph.

I am convinced that when The Creator made ducks, he/she decided to use all the colors

of the rainbow to make this most colorful one!:

I love, love, love those ducks and was thrilled they let me photograph them.

Part Six: Lulu at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park

In my first post about Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

in Florida,

I mentioned that all the wildlife and birds in the park

are ones natural to the state of Florida.

EXCEPT ONE.

You see, a long time ago, this park was a privately owned zoo.

And its favorite resident was a hippo named LULU.

The people who live near the park love him (I found out it is a HIM, not a HER! Lulu is short for Lucifer!) , as he has resided there for many, many years.

The day we visited, we learned it was Lulu's birthday.

Just GUESS how old he was that day???

51 (yes you read right, fifty ONE!!)

Did you know that the average hippopotamus lives to be around 60 years old???

We were AMAZED at that fact.

Anyway, Lulu was very playful the day we visited. I think he was showing off a little bit for us tourists on his birthday, and everyone was loving it.

Cedar Waxwings!!

Today, we will take a small break from all the tropical Florida pictures

and get back to the U.P. , with snow still on the ground!

One day, as I was getting ready for the day, fixing my hair in the bathroom,

I heard quite a lot of bird noises right outside my window.

I opened the blinds and discovered that a flock of Bohemian Waxwings

had flown into our apple trees and were in a frenzy

eating some frozen apples that were left in the crooks of the trees by our Psycho Squirrel

outside. 

They were even digging in the snow at the bottom of the apple trees to reach fallen apples there.

So, I did whatever crazy photographers do, and grabbed some sweatpants and went outside on my front porch and captured some photos of them with my camera.

I had to sneak out there, because they were pretty skiddish about  people, but I had such fun trying to capture them while they were all eating.

"Now hear this...this is officially MY apple!":

I love their feathery headcrests....
