Lower Tahquamenon Falls

Next on our series of our visit to the eastern Upper Peninsula: Tahquamenon Falls!!
According to Native American lore, the name Tahquamenon is after the amber color of the waters.

There are actually two sets of falls: The Upper Falls and the Lower Falls, and both are equally beautiful. The upper falls are the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi, with the largest being Niagra Falls. Please go on the link above and this link to learn where it is and to learn more about the falls.

For today's post, I will bring you on a tour of the lower falls first.

Ready?
It's a little chilly out the day of our tour...in the 50's with a little sun off and on, so bring a comfy sweater or a hoodie!
First to start your tour....the wooden walkway through the woods to get to the falls:

Can you smell the pines?

Can you hear the faint roar of the falls up ahead? (You have to listen very carefully).

Or maybe,
what you are hearing is the babbling of this tiny brook you are walking over
on the way to the falls:

Keep walking....
your first glimpse of the falls
is straight ahead!:

Shelves of water cascading into a big pool of water on the bottom:

But if you walk around to the other side of the pool, you can get much closer to the falls themselves:

Here they are from another angle of view:

The sun broke out.
Doesn't if feel mystical? Just look!:

And up close?

Well, ....YOU think of an adjective.....:

Autumn splendor!:

The splashing shelf:

A whole row of watery joy!:

Some people think waterfalls are tranquil.

But LOOK at the falls up close and personal!:

Fast, roaring, exciting and fabulous!:

And this was just the LOWER falls.

Wait until my next post.....where I will show you

the UPPER falls.

They say it is the U.P.'s Niagara Falls....

I think they are even BETTER. Because NO crowds, no tour boats, no hustle and bustle of crowds and crowds of people...

Just nature.

At its absolute BEST.
