The Photography Potpourri Continues....

Even though we have lost all of our colored leaves in the U.P. of Michigan, there is still beauty all around us.

Even though it snowed already, it has melted again....

So here are some woods' scenes that I have captured over the last couple of weeks for you.

A double waterfall:

This mushroom reminded me of a crocodile's snout!:

I had to crawl through a little bit of woods to get to this little hidden waterfalls.
But it was worth it:

This is the same waterfalls taken right where it spills over the edge of the rocks.
It had been raining all day, and when I got there, the sun broke out:

A cute little Purple Finch:

He decided to stop by our house for a snack:

And the Grosbeaks are coming through too.
I love the black, white and yellow of their backs:

A babbling brook on a shimmering, sunny day:

King Lake one late afternoon on a sunny day:

This spot is bone dry in the summer.
But in the spring and fall, the river flows down amongst the many rocks
on the way to Craig Lake:

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Photography Potpourri....

Today, I have another set of photographs for you that I have taken over the last month or so.

One day, when we went into the woods, it had just rained and the sun came out.
We were in a bunch of Tamarack pine trees and the branches looked alive with sparkle:

And there were droplets on the other pine tree needles:

A babbling brook in the midst of the colored leaves:

Because of a hard frost, many of the leaves had fallen off the trees while they were still green.
I saw this one on the ground, full of droplets, and I knew I had to capture it in a photo:

A little hidden waterfalls in the forest:

A splashing falls:

We hardly EVER see Cardinals here.

One day, I heard a bird calling outside of our house.

It sounded like our Blue Jays, only a little different.

I look out, and see THIS !!!:
He has been back a few times to our yard, but he has been VERY jumpy and by the time I get my camera out, he flies away.

My goal is to get him drunk or something and have my way with him.

I'll keep you posted on how that's working for me.

I found another gigantic tree mushroom and it reminded me of a plate:

This gorgeous moon was out in the middle of a sunny day.
I love day moons, don't you?:

Stay tuned, I still have some more various photos of some wood's photos.
Before I know it, we will be buried in snow again and I won't be able to tromp out in the woods as much to capture things, so I have been trying to get outside as much as possible in these last weeks of autumn to do so.

Autumn Waterfalls: (Last) Part

This is my last set of waterfall pictures from the day we went out for some hikes to three different waterfalls in our area this autumn.

This was one of the trails of the hike to get to one of the waterfalls:

But it led to another set of little waterfalls worth seeing!:

The water was high even in this little waterfall due to the days and days of rain we had been having:

I liked the slate on the walls beside the waterfall, too:

Water came in from two sides of the river, where they merged into this waterfall:

There was still a lot of colored leaves on the trees upstream from the waterfalls:

At the crest of the falls:

Slippery rock ledges bordered the falls:

Another shot of the rushing water:

When we first hiked in, it was raining and cloudy.
By the time we got close to the falls, bright sunshine broke out, lighting up the water.
I loved how it made shadows of the trees in the forest as we approached the falls!:

At last!
A sunny day at the end of our hike to light up the river and the autumn colors:

A look at the falls through the pines:

And the last of our autumn glory
on the river:

It was on the next day that we got a HARD frost which turned all these glorious leaves to a dull brown.
We then got wind and they dried up and all blew down in the next 24 hours!!
And, as you know from a few posts back:
After that, we got snow.
Thank goodness the snow has melted (for NOW) and we just have bare trees and brown now.
But I love looking at these pictures to remind me how beautiful
the last month was.

Autumn Waterfalls: Part Two

I am continuing today with my series on the waterfalls we saw on our trip out to the woods recently. Enjoy!

Looking through the trees at a pretty waterfalls:

Same waterfalls,

another view:

This log got caught in a pretty scene:

Standing in the middle of the waterfalls:

(Not really, it is the wonder of a zoom lens!):

Wonderful waterfall shelves:

Love the rush!:

And the sparkling sun on the yellow leaves and water:

I love catching the movement of the rushing water in the shadows, too:

And the water's descent into the colorful autumn forest:

A perfect place for meditation and wonder:

Since we visited three waterfalls on this day,

I will have a few more posts this week yet of the beautiful scenes we were privileged to see.

Have a SPOOKtacular weekend, everyone!!
