Still This and That from Winter Photographs!

Even though where YOU live,

you may have already raised a small farm and eaten produce...

up here in the North, we had snow very late,

spring weather came for a week and a half,

and then we got hit with major cold and snow AGAIN.

So during this confusing time we call Spring up in the U.P.

(where you can never put your longjohns away for more than a few weeks)

I still had winter to shoot with my lens.

Here are some random shots of the end of our winter (and the beginning of our spring!)

Didn't need snowshoes, but I did take my poles to help steady me when I sunk into random spots in the melting snow:

I love these little stalagtights hanging over the rushing river water:

Everywhere, texture and mushrooms!:

Nature accomodated the rock and the roots grew right over it into trees:

This woodpecker thought it was pretty convenient that the loggers brought the wood down to HIM:

The woods were very quiet that day, until I heard the tap-tap-tap of this little guy:

Our snow melted quickly during a week and a half, and then on April 16th, we got another snow storm

that dumped us with a bunch of snow.

I am pre-publishing this blogpost, so hopefully by the time it posts,

our snow will once again be only a memory here too....

Photography Potpourri....

Today, I have another set of photographs for you that I have taken over the last month or so.

One day, when we went into the woods, it had just rained and the sun came out.

We were in a bunch of Tamarack pine trees and the branches looked alive with sparkle:

And there were droplets on the other pine tree needles:

A babbling brook in the midst of the colored leaves:

Because of a hard frost, many of the leaves had fallen off the trees while they were still green.

I saw this one on the ground, full of droplets, and I knew I had to capture it in a photo:

A little hidden waterfalls in the forest:

A splashing falls:


We hardly EVER see Cardinals here.

One day, I heard a bird calling outside of our house.

It sounded like our Blue Jays, only a little different.

I look out, and see THIS !!!:
He has been back a few times to our yard, but he has been VERY jumpy and by the time I get my camera out, he flies away.

My goal is to get him drunk or something and have my way with him.

I'll keep you posted on how that's working for me.




I found another gigantic tree mushroom and it reminded me of a plate:






This gorgeous moon was out in the middle of a sunny day.
I love day moons, don't you?:

Stay tuned, I still have some more various photos of some wood's photos.

Before I know it, we will be buried in snow again and I won't be able to tromp out in the woods as much to capture things, so I have been trying to get outside as much as possible in these last weeks of autumn to do so.

A Snow Bird. We get a ton of these here that stay all winter. But they are hard to capture on film, they are very jumpy birds that fly every few seconds!:
